Twitter Me This Batman

Twitterlogo-1My world revolves around technology. I am at my computer all day preparing budgets, planning, writing software code, responding to email, etc. I often listen to podcasts related to technology as well. Some of my favorites are DIGG Nation, TWIT, CrankyGeeks, and MacBreak Weekly. These guys have been touting a service called Twitter for the past year. It never made much sense to me so I didn’t bother looking at it. If John C. Dvorak didn’t see any use to it, then why would I?

I woke up this morning and as I prepared for my morning bike ride to work, a stray thought parsed my synapses. “Sign up for Twitter.”, the stray thought said. Without a second thought to counteract the first, my fingers were flying away on my keyboard. I think the fact that the signup process was so easy was a huge factor in following through on my stray thought’s command. I even put a Twitter update widget on this blog.

What does Twitter do for you? It is really a way to let people know what you are doing throughout the day. You can just look at the website, receive text messages, or IMs.  Why would I want to do that? I think the video on Twitter does a great job of explaining this. Twitter let’s people see your life between personal interactions. For instance, I talk to my parents once or twice a week on the telephone. With Twitter, they can see what I am up to in between those telephone calls. The same goes for all my friends that I only see on the weekend.

I plan to give Twitter a fair shake. The only reservation I have is the number of text messages I will send and receive through this service. I may have to upgrade my iPhone plan. Go HERE to follow me on Twitter.
