Dollars vs. Kroners (Week 10)

KronerI made it back from Norway safe and sound.  It was a very successful business trip.  One of the striking things about Norway is the price of everything.  The weak dollar doesn’t help matters.  To give you some perspective, a regular fast food meal that would cost $6 in the US will run you $18 in Norway.  A glass of beer, $12.  I had heard Norway was one of the wealthiest nations in the world and now I can confirm this is the case.

The other interesting thin I learned about Norway is that it is not in the EU.  They do have an economic pact with the EU, but they carry their own currency and walk around like they are an independent country.  The lazy American I am, I just assumed all western European countries were in the EU.

Checking in on the Thoroughbred Folio, the market has been a fickle beast since our last update.  The new catch phrase is “stagflation”.  I just have to laugh when I watch these guys over-react every day on the boob tube.  However, we are holding up well and looking to the future as spring draws ever closer.  Clorox (CLX), Abbott Labs (ABT), and Proter & Gamble (PG) all distributed dividends.

Double digit gains for our top three stocks.  Synovus, Nucor, and VF Corp are regulars at the front of the pack and they appear to be getting stronger.  Total System Services is still trailing.  All three of our bottom stocks have double digit loses.  Unfortunately they seem to be getting weaker as we go.
