Things Are Not Always As They Seem (Week 8)

IllusionThe Thoroughbred Folio tracks the market well.  This week we saw our gains taken back as the recession worries increased yet again after productivity numbers scared investors.  So begins another weekly overview of the Folio.

Although we have been suffering lately, we can take solace in the fact that we are doing well comparatively.  The S&P 500 has dropped 7.4%, the DOW is down 7.0%, and the NASDAQ has fallen 9.9% since December 17th.  Our Folio has managed to only give back 4.1% (excluding dividends).  Hooray!  One other bit of good news is that we received another dividend, this time from Nucor (NUE) in the amount of $0.77.

VF Corp charged to the lead this week followed by Synovus and Family Dollar.  The back of the pack still finds Total System Services imitating a caboose.  Automated Data Processing is still a solid second to last with Consolidated Edison taking its first turn in the bottom three.
