The Thoroughbred Folio is no stranger to the ills of this market. In these times, we look for small victories to give us the strength to move on. Last Tuesday was a memorable day for the Thoroughbreds for a very good reason. Why was Tuesday special?
On Tuesday, January 15, 2008 Cincinnati Financial (CINF) and US Bancorp (USB) were the first two Thoroughbreds to distribute dividends to our Folio. We received $0.68 from CINF and $0.99 from USB. I have updated the database and it is reflected on the Thoroughbred Folio page. When we are suffering from a market in turmoil, it is refreshing to see a dividend roll in.
The performance continues to decline as our losses doubled from week 4. Leading our bottom three stocks, we find our old friends Regions Financial (RF) and Total System Services (TSS). Regions is scheduled to report earnings tomorrow and last week they declared an increase in their dividend from $0.36 to $0.38. It will be interesting to see how their numbers shake out.
Our three winners are easy to spot because we only have three stocks in the green. Abbott Labs (ABT) and Eli Lilly (LLY) swapped spots from last week, while Synovus (SNV) is still holding on to second place.
